December's Morning Book Discussion: The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society

Wednesday, December 16th from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm

Our book discussion leader, Donna Diamond, has selected The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows.

The time is 1946. The place is London. Looking around for new inspiration for her books, writer Juliet Ashton finds it in letters she receives from the inhabitants of the Channel Islands in Guernsey. The story begins when Juliet receives a letter from a stranger, a founding member of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

As an epistolary novel, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society captures the immediacy of the Guernsey Islanders' experience during the German occupation and tells a remarkable tale of a society as extraordinary as its name.

There will be a half-hour break after the book discussion. The movie 84 Charing Cross Road will follow at 1:30 pm.
