Announcing the 2011 PEN/Faulkner Award Winner: Deborah Eisenberg!

Founded by writers in 1980, and named for William Faulkner, who used his Nobel Prize funds to create an award for young writers, and PEN, the international writers’ organization, the PEN/Faulkner Foundation brings together American writers and readers in a wide variety of programs to promote a love of literature.

Deborah Eisenberg’s The Collected Stories of Deborah Eisenberg (Picador) has been selected as the winner of the 2011 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.

The honored book, The Collected Stories of Deborah Eisenberg, brings together four volumes of Eisenberg's work: Transactions in a Foreign Currency, Under the 82nd Airborne, All Around Atlantis, and Twilight of the Superheroes, which was a PEN/Faulkner Finalist in 2007. Eisenberg's stories have long been admired for their exceptional language and nuanced evocation of thought and emotion.

This year's PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction Nominees were:
Jennifer Egan for A Visit From the Goon Squad (also on audio CD)
Deborah Eisenberg for The Collected Stories of Deborah Eisenberg
Jaimy Gordon for Lord of Misrule
Eric Puchner for Model Home
