Adult Summer Reading Club Review: Eleanor & Park

Title: Eleanor & Park
Author: Rainbow Rowell
Review: A very good read. The whole time I wondered how much of the story was based in truth...lines from the dedication and acknowledgement made me wonder...there is a serious threat over Eleanor and I felt worried for her the entire time. This book opens up your eyes to children who live in poverty, and is part of the truth of the book according to the author's blog. The romance between Eleanor and Park is sweet, it's bitter, it's unlikely, it's likely and it's star-crossed as told right from the jacket flap but you will root for them anyway. I loved Park's family and wanted to shake Eleanor's mom. The bullying from the kids at school was outrageous, and yet I know kids can be mean, mean, mean. I also wondered how much of the bullying was based in truth and how much was embellished.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
