On BookTV: The Manor: Three Centuries at a Slave Plantation on Long Island

Watch author Mac Griswold speak at the Sylvester Manor Educational Farm in Shelter Island, New York.
Mac Griswold presents a history of Sylvester Manor on Shelter Island that was built in 1652 and owned by the Sylvesters, a Quaker family, for eleven generations.  The author reports on her initial research into the property, once 8,000 acres and now 243, its many former inhabitants, and the discovery of slave-holdings.

The Manor is also the 2014 pick of the Long Island Reads Committee.
