March Book Discussion - "Nineteen Minutes"

Our book discussion leader, Donna Diamond, has chosen NINETEEN MINUTES by Jodi Picoult for our March 18th book discussion (11:30 am to 1:00 pm).

This is a raw, compelling novel which deals with a Columbine High School-type shooting. The author handles this shocking and tragic incident with sensitivity and presents the reader with the perspective, background and emotional state of the shooter, the shooter's family, the victims and 'those that started it'. It is a powerful and thought-provoking novel written post-Columbine but prior to the Virginia Tech massacre.

"In nineteen minutes, you can mow the front lawn, color your hair, watch a third of a hockey game. In nineteen minutes, you can bake scones or get a tooth filled by a dentist; you can fold laundry for a family of five...In nineteen minutes, you can stop the world, or you can just jump off it. In nineteen minutes, you can get revenge."

Please join us for a lively discussion of NINETEEN MINUTES.

Watch for the movie version of Jodi Picoult's MY SISTER'S KEEPER, out in theaters this June, starring Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin and Alec Baldwin, directed by Nick Cassavetes.

JODI PICOULT will also be at Book Revue in Huntington on March 6th at 7:00 pm.
